We encourage the development of each child’s self esteem and independence. We encourage children to develop the value of respect towards others and the environment.
A planned programme of familiarisation visits takes place before children begin school. Staff will liaise with pre-school provisions and parents prior to admission. The children have 5 visits: 4 half days and one full day including staying for school lunch. Children are also invited to school functions during their pre-school years but especially in the term prior to entry.
Parents receive our Early Years Brochure and a school starter pack which gives details of how our school provides for the children’s early years.
The aims for under fives in Bowes School are basically to:
Foster personal, social and emotional well-being in all children; in particular by supporting their transition to the school setting and providing opportunities for each child to become a valued member of our community;
Promote positive attitudes to learning in all children; in particular an enthusiasm for knowledge, and a confidence in their ability to be successful learners;
Enhance social skills in all children; in particular by providing opportunities that enable them to learn how to co-operate and work harmoniously alongside and with, each other and to listen to each other;
Promote attention skills and persistence in all children; in particular their capacity to concentrate their own play or group tasks.
Provide a teaching and learning programme which promotes children’s learning in:
1. Language and Literacy
2. Personal, Social & Emotional Development
3. Mathematical Development
4. Knowledge and Understanding of the World
5. Physical Development
6. Creative Development
These are the aims which underpin the Foundation Stage curriculum at Bowes Hutchinson’s Primary School.
It is recognised that the curriculum for young children encompasses the experiences and the resources which the school provides, the relationships which exist within the school, and the procedures and organizational approaches, which contribute to the ethos of the school. All of these aspects of school life provide valuable learning opportunities and contribute to the achievement of these overall aims.
