Welcome to Bowes Hutchinson C of E Primary School , school council!
The school council is made up of one child from each year group from EYFS to
Year 6. Our school council children meet every week with Miss Fletcher, and we discuss ideas, resolve issues and plan for events like discos, world book day, sports relief, and children in need.
Our members for the school council 2025/2026 are:
● Ivy
● Rachel
● Arthur
● Emma
● Finley
● Ivy
● Amber
The school council members are chosen by their classmates. We believe that the school council gives the children an opportunity to discuss and share their own ideas for what they believe are the right ideas and the best outcome for
them, their classmates, and their school.
Our school council candidates will have to have many roles within their job as
school council. These include:
● Attending the weekly meetings
● Upholding the school’s behaviour policy
● Sharing ideas and discussing these with the other members
● Sharing classmates’ ideas
● Organising events for the school throughout the year
We also have buddies in our school where we do lots of amazing activities together and always know we have a friend in the school. Our buddies are from different classes to give us the chance to meet and feel confident with a range of ages and abilities. Nursery and Reception are buddies with a person in class 3 and class 1 have their buddies in class 2. We believe this helps to settle children who may be less confident and give them a friend to help them through their school journey. Our play leaders also lead games on playtime and dinner time to promote healthy activity and inclusion to ensure everyone gets a chance to be involved.

The school has recently brought in external training for this group of young people both in KS1 and KS2 to enable them to respond to their peers in a helpful and supportive way.
“We have mini buds in class one and buddies in class two and three”
“Buddies ask children who haven’t got anyone to play with if they want to play with them!”
“We have a buddy bench next to the shed that children can go sit on and a buddy will come over and talk to them and play”
“It’s really good having buddies”
