These are vertical groups with children from Reception – Y6. The children stay in the same Family Group throughout their school life ensuring a close bond between other members of the same group and the member of staff who is head of the group.
Each Family Group is named after a tree.
Our Family Groups meet every Tuesday morning for an act of Collective Worship where they discuss a programme of subjects including UNICEF – Rights Of The Child, Rights and Responsibilities, Christian Values and PSHE.
These groups give the children intimate time in a small group situation for open conversations and interaction with full adult support and facilitation.
Each child is able to earn points for their group by working hard in class, being kind and considerate, being polite and courteous and showing bravery or leadership skills.
Each child places their green (or orange/red) cards in the Family Group’s collection hanger in their classroom and these are counted weekly with the scores being displayed in the school hall.
At the end of each half-term, the scores are announced and the winning group is able to choose a treat from a menu of ‘treats’ that has been devised by the children and staff.
This system forms part of our Behaviour Policy: Respectful Relationships.
